Homeless woman charged in attack

A 37-year-old homeless woman was charged yesterday with one count of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing Tuesday night in Iwilei.

Christine Jose was being held last night in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The 38-year-old woman who was stabbed was in critical but stable condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center, police said. The woman was stabbed repeatedly in the upper torso while in the driver's seat of a parked car on Ka'a'ahi Street at about 10:15 p.m.

Man charged in Kahuku slaying

A 53-year-old man was charged yesterday with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday in Kahuku.

Colonel Robert Taylor was being held last night on $400,000 bail. Taylor also was charged with three weapons violations and a drug charge connected to the seizure of more than 500 marijuana plants found at the scene of the shooting, which occurred on leased farmland.

The victim, a 54-year-old man, died Tuesday at 2:10 p.m. while in surgery at The Queen's Medical Center, police said. The medical examiner's office has not released his identity but said the man died of internal injuries caused by a gunshot to the torso.

Police said Taylor, who told police the shooting was accidental, brought the wounded man to Kahuku Hospital and also surrendered a pistol to police.

Police investigate infant girl's injuries

Police have opened a first-degree assault case after a 3-month-old girl was brought to a hospital with severe head injuries. The Kalihi girl was taken to Kapi'olani Medical Center with flu-like symptoms. Police said she also was vomiting.

Doctors determined that the girl was suffering from bleeding on her brain, which could have caused the vomiting. Police said she also had bruises to her sternum. Police have a suspect, but no arrests had been made as of last night.
