Bob Freitas of Honolulu, left, saluted during the Da Kine Marines 50th Anniversary Commemoration at 'Iolani Palace in Honolulu yesterday afternoon. Fifty years ago, a group of 185 young Marines, all from Hawai'i, stood on the steps of 'Iolani Palace and accepted the flag of Hawai'i from Gov. Sam King, creating the first all-Hawai'i company in the history of the Marine Corps. About 45 veterans attended the ceremony.
