Shooting suspect, 17, arrested in other cases

Advertiser Staff

Maugaotega
A 17-year-old boy accused of shooting a Punchbowl man last month was arrested in connection with two other criminal cases yesterday, but was not charged pending investigation.

Miti "Junior" Maugaotega Jr., known as "Junior," is being held at the Alder Street juvenile detention facility on charges of attempting to murder Eric Kawamoto, who was shot in the chest during a June 26 burglary at his Punchbowl home. Maugaotega also faces fire-arms and drug charges in the Punchbowl case.

He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of sexually assaulting and robbing a Ho-nolulu woman June 23 and committing a robbery at a Honolulu home June 16.

A Family Court hearing Aug. 27 will determine if Maugaotega should be tried as an adult in the Punchbowl shooting.
