ISLE FILE
Akau, Shibuya tied for OCC Men's golf lead

Advertiser Staff

Christian Akau fired a 4-under-par 67 yesterday to gain a share of the lead after two rounds of the OCC Men's Invitational at O'ahu Country Club.

Akau is at 3-under 139 and tied with first-round leader Randy Shibuya, who shot a 71 yesterday.

Merv Matsumoto is at 68—140, followed by Steve Yogi at 70—141.

The cutoff score was 155 with 40 players qualifying for today's final round starting at 11 a.m. off both the first and 10th tees.

CORRECTION

Surfing champ omitted: Kathrine Van Dyke won the girls shortboard surfing division of the scholastic competition of the United States Surfing Federation National Championships last week at Oceanside, Calif.

She was one of 12 surfers from Hawai'i to win a national championship at the week-long event. Her name was omitted from a list of champions from Hawai'i in an article in Wednesday's Advertiser.

In the scholastic competition, surfers must represent a high school. Van Dyke represented Wahiawa Surf Club, which is actually Leilehua High (because schools in Hawai'i do not sanction surfing, the surfers had to enter under a club name).

Johnny Van Dyke, Kathrine's brother, placed fourth in the boys shortboard division.
