A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Mililani was killed early yesterday morning and the woman riding with him was seriously injured when a driver suspected of speeding and being under the influence of alcohol allegedly ran into the motorcycle.

Charges are pending against an 18-year-old man from Wai'anae who was arrested in connection with the accident, which occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Farrington Highway, said Honolulu police Sgt. John Agno.

"Speed and alcohol are suspected in this collision," Agno said.

According to police, the teenager was driving south on Farrington Highway in a Toyota Corolla when he rear-ended the bikers, throwing them from a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The accident, which occurred about 71 feet south of Kea'au Homestead Road, caused the car and the Harley to run off the right shoulder of the road.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and a 46-year-old woman, who was riding on the back of his bike, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. Her condition was later upgraded to serious.

The driver of the car refused treatment at the scene.
