Tonight's Must-See

"Espy Awards," 3 p.m. (live), 5 p.m. (taped, delayed), ESPN. There will be nothing stiff and stuffy about this show honoring athletes, promises host Jamie Foxx. "Live shows can be fun," he says. "There will be no tuxedos. I'm going to make sure we all stay loose." Along the way, he grants, he may be a little awed. Foxx meets movie stars all the time, but athletes are a bigger deal. "What they do is amazing," he says. He's played a quarterback (in Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday"), but he's also been one in real life in high school. Now he hosts this show. The prize for best male athlete pits Tiger Woods, Barry Bonds, Tim Duncan and Lance Armstrong against each other; the one for female athlete has Serena Williams, Annika Sorenstam, Lisa Leslie and Diana Taurasi.

Of Note

"Jaws" (1975), 5 and 9:35 p.m., AMC. Here's the movie that helped nudge Hollywood toward its current blockbuster obsession. Steven Spielberg's brilliant shark film showed studios that one film could monopolize the summer.

"Fame," 7 p.m., NBC. Tonight, the field will be trimmed to the final four.

"X-Men" (2000), 8 p.m., FX. And here's an example of a modern-day blockbuster. A quarter-century after "Jaws," this adventure scored big with lots of comic-book heroes, played by such people as Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart.

"Pepsi Smash," 8 p.m., WB. Here's the start of a series of summer concerts. In the opener, Amanda Bynes introduces Evanescence, the Ataris and Black Eyed Peas.

"Law & Order," 8 & 9 p.m., NBC. The first rerun involves the murder of a teacher who had romantic complications. In the second, cops scramble to find a sniper.
