Based on alphabetical order, Alta Vita is the first yacht listed in the 42nd Transpacific Yacht Race program.
Based on corrected time, Alta Vita can now be listed first in the overall standings as well.
Alta Vita, a 52-foot sloop owned and skippered by Bill Turpin, arrived off Diamond Head early yesterday morning. With handicapped times factored in to compensate for design differences, Alta Vita was awarded the King Kalakaua and Governor of Hawai'i trophies as the fastest yacht in the fleet.
"We've been preparing for this since the first of the year," Turpin said.
Alta Vita, with a crew of six sailors from California and two from Hawai'i, finished with an actual time of 8 days, 17 hours, 1 minute, 25 seconds. Its corrected time was computed to 7:12:20:29.
Alta Vita also won the competitive Division II championship.
Beau Geste, another 52-foot yacht that finished yesterday, is second in corrected time at 7:15:56:42. Beau Geste also finished second in Division II.
Pegasus 77, which finished Monday, had the fastest actual time (7:16:31:17), but is fourth in corrected time.
As of 6 o'clock last night, 37 of the 54 yachts in the fleet had completed the 2,225-nautical mile course from Los Angeles to Diamond Head. All the remaining yachts are expected to finish by early tomorrow morning.
