Focus shifts for electric SUVs

The state's Hawai'i Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program and Hyundai Motor Co. have added another two years to their project and are now focused on rapidly charging electric SUVs.

The state, City and County of Honolulu, and U.S. Air Force each has one electric-powered Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, which can get 80 to 90 miles on a single charge.

Organizers are focusing on rapid-charging systems to reduce the charge time from eight hours to 30 minutes.


Trust sells shopping center

Kamehameha Schools has sold a California shopping center for $25.3 million as part of an effort to rebalance its investment portfolio.

The $5.4 billion trust sold the 110,122-square foot Desert Springs Marketplace in Palm Desert, Calif., to developer Sanderson J. Ray-Desert Springs Partners LLP.
