Rail reunites for one show only

Hawai'i's original party posse, Rail, comes out of retirement for a reunion show tonight at the Wave Waikiki. Local alternative rockers Full Circle open up, with DJs KSM, SubZero and Jrama spinning their sounds. Doors open at 9 p.m., and show starts at 10:30 p.m., for 21 and older. Cover is $10. 941-0424.


Dance it up at Hula's

DJ Joe Bermudez heats up Hula's Bar and Lei Stand tonight during Tasty Production's latest event, Tour de Dance. Bermudez's residencies include the Roxy in Boston and Rich's in San Diego. Also in the house will be Derek Daniels' Party Favors dance troupe. Doors open at 9 p.m. Cover is $10 for ages 18-20, $7 for 21 and older and $5 for those with a HUI card, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Maui AIDS Foundation. 923-0669.


Hula at Moanalua Gardens and Blaisdell

Two popular annual hula festivals make appearances this week, starting with the 26th annual Prince Lot Hula Festival, above. From 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Moanalua Gardens will be abuzz with Hawaiian demonstrations, including games, lauhala weaving and ipu making. Entertainment will be performances by the Royal Hawaiian Band and 13 halau, including winners of the Hawai'i Secondary Schools Hula Kahiko Competition. The public is encouraged to bring mats and chairs to enjoy this free event. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed. 839-5334.

Thursday marks the beginning of the 28th annual Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Competition. This year, 25 groups from O'ahu, Maui, Guam and California will perform in the Blaisdell Arena. Here's the schedule: From 6 p.m. Thursday, Miss and Master Keiki Hula competition; 6 p.m. July 25, group hula kahiko competition; noon July 26, group hula 'auana competition. Acoustic sounds

Singer/songwriter Jeff Kloetzel, known as "Jeff K," offers a solo acoustic performance of original material at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The ARTS at Marks Garage as part of the ongoing Truetone Songwriter's Concert Series. Kloetzel will perform recent music that ranges from driving, rhythmic tunes to contemplative pieces.

Singer/songwriter Johnny Helm, whose recent CD "At Random" has been well received, also will perform; Kloetzel will add his guitar talents to Helm's appearance.

Oh, the things you can collect!

It'll be a collector's paradise when the Hawaii All-Collectors Show 2003 fills the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall with collectibles and antiques from local and Mainland dealers this weekend.

Hours are 4-9 p.m. today, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $3.75, children ages 7-11 are $2. Seniors 65 and older are free on Sunday. 941-9754, ukulele.com.

Also on Saturday, visit the Quiksilver Edition Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction in the Pikake Room, with silent auction at 2 p.m. and live auction at 5 p.m. Auction previews are 4-9 p.m. today and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in the Blaisdell Center Galleria. Speaking out against war

This weekend marks the Honolulu premiere of David Zeiger's film, "A Night of Ferocious Joy," which captured the May 12, 2002, anti-war concert "Art-Speaks! Not in our Name" at the Palace Theatre in Hollywood. Each screening will be preceded by a half-hour segment of spoken word and poetry by local artists. Fiddle master

Solo Irish fiddle virtuoso Martin Hayes will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Doris Duke Theater in the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Hayes' slow, lyrical airs and blazing jigs and reels have brought him numerous awards, including being named all-Ireland fiddle champion six times. The Wiggles are all the rage

Beauty, mate! From Down Under to Waikiki, The Wiggles are coming! The popular children's show, with colorful characters dressed in purple, red, yellow and blue, is bringing its song and dance to the Hawai'i Convention Center for three shows Thursday. Bring the little ones to see Anthony, Greg, Jeff and Murray as they sleep, eat, perform magic and make faces to tap their creative instincts for a thoroughly entertaining show. The Caz in the moonlight

Join The Brothers Cazimero — Robert and Roland — as they play their classic and contemporary Hawaiian favorites at Moonlight Mele on the Lawn Thursday, presented by AIG Hawaii. Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Maunalua also brings forth its traditional tunes. The concert begins at 7 p.m. on the Bishop Museum's Great Lawn.
