Kailua Men's Night Doubles starts Sunday

Qualifying round action of the 33rd annual Kailua Racquet Club Men's Night Doubles tournament begins this Sunday at the Kailua Racquet Club.

This year's field includes 14-year-old phenom Dennis Lajola, an eighth-grader from 'Aiea, and Hawai'i Pacific University's top doubles team of Mikael Maatta and Jan Tribler, who finished second at this year's NCAA Division II Championships.

The event is the state's most widely attended tennis tournament, and includes a purse of $7,500.

Qualifying matches begin at 6 p.m. Sunday and continue through July 25. The main draw begins July 27, with the semifinals July 31, and the final to be played Aug. 2. All matches begin at 6 p.m. and 7:15. Admission is free for spectators. For information, call 263-4444.
