Hollywood producer Chris Lee will speak on the rise of creative media in Hawai'i at the annual N.H. Paul Chung Memorial Lecture July 30.
This event is held in honor of Paul Chung, who founded the Pacific Asian Management Institute in 1977. Housed within the University of Hawai'i College of Business Administration, the center serves as a source of expertise on international business and management in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Lee, founding co-director of UH's Cinematic and Digital Arts Program, was chosen as a speaker because he has envisioned Hawai'i developing as a strong contributor to the increasingly knowledge-based entertainment industry, said Shirley Daniel, director for PAMI.
That type of forward-thinking was typical of Chung, who died in 1986, Daniel said.
Lee, a former president of production for TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures, is an Iolani graduate. His goal is to create a world-class educational program at UH that can serve as an economic engine for the state.
PAMI is also sponsoring a seminar on corporate governance on Aug. 4 at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel for officers and directors of public companies.
The session will review new rules emerging from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act passed in the aftermath of recent corporate scandals, as well as new standards imposed by the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.
Information is available on the institute's Web site at pami.hawaii.edu.
