Wie’s tied for lead at U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship

Honolulu’s Michelle Wie shot a 2-under 69 today and was tied for the lead after the first round of stroke play in the 55th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn.

Paula Creamer, 16, of Pleasanton, Calif., had five birdies in a round that left her tied with Wie.

Defending champion In-Bee Park of Eustis, Fla., and Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff of Toms River, N.J., are at 1-under 70.

Wie is one of six Hawai‘i golfers in the tournament, which will go into 64-player match play after medal play rounds today and tomorrow.

Wie, 13, an incoming ninth-grader at Punahou School, had four birdies and two bogeys.

She birdied the par 4, 343-yard No. 3, the par 5, 547-yard No. 7, the par 5, 448-yard No. 8 and the par 3, 128-yard No. 15.

She bogeyed the par 3, 137-yard 10th and the par 4 395-yard 18th.

Here’s how other Hawai‘i golfers fared:

 •  Honolulu’s Stephanie Kono shot 4-over 75 and is tied for 20th;
 •  Hilo’s Amanda Wilson shot 5-over 76 and is tied for 29th;
 •  Wahiawa’s Britney Choy shot 9-over 80 and is tied for 65th;
 •  Honolulu’s Lindsay Hong shot a 10-over 81 and is tied for 86th;
 •  Makawao’s Lisa Kajihara shot a 12-over 83 and is tied for 110th
