Search continues for missing hiker

Fire rescue specialists today resumed searching for a 19-year-old college student from Kalama Valley who failed to return from a hike yesterday to Mau‘umae Ridge above Wilhelmina Rise.
Police have asked for help locating Daniel Levey, reported missing yesterday.

The University of Oregon student, Daniel Levey, was reported missing by his mother at 8 p.m., said Officer Phil Camero of the Honolulu Police Department’s Missing Persons Detail. The man had called his mother three times yesterday afternoon. On his last call, he indicated his cell-phone battery was low, Camero said.

While the search is continuing in the west ridge areas of Manoa and Tantalus, police have asked for help in locating Levey.

Levey is described as Caucasian 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing130 lbs. He has a slim build, brown hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. Levey has a mustache and goatee and was wearing a white T-shirt, tan pants and white athletic shoes. He was carrying a black backpack.
