THE LEFT LANE
Dining by TV light

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Family time's most repeated quote — "what did you do today" — has been supplanted by "pass the remote" at the dinner table.

According to a June survey, seven of 10 families eat together at least four nights a week — but 45 percent of the 1,031 parents surveyed said they have the TV or radio on while eating dinner. Regardless of the background noise, three of four parents feel family dinners are important for maintaining a degree of intimacy and connection among family members. Eighty-three percent believe family dinners contribute to a child's success in school. The survey also reported that 85 percent of families order take-out. This "Family Dinner Report" was sponsored by KFC, a company with a big stake in take-out dining.
