Eye doctor lauded for work

Dr. John M. Corboy of Moloka'i was awarded the Surgical Eye Expeditions Inc. International Humanitarian Award for 2003 at recent ceremonies in San Francisco for his work with the Tongan Ministry of Health.

SEE cited Corboy and his Hawaiian Eye Foundation for providing 20 years of humanitarian volunteer eye-care services, training and equipment to Pacific Islanders.


DBEDT official to receive honor

Raymond M. Jefferson, deputy director of the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, has been selected as one of two recipients to receive the Harrison H. Schmitt Leadership Award for Alumni of the Fulbright Student Program.

The award, to be presented July 29 by Secretary of State Colin Powell in Washington, D.C., is given to Fulbright alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in, and dedication to, public service, learning and mutual understanding in their communities and careers.


Local Red Cross officers named

The Hawai'i State Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced its officers for 2003-04, including: Robert Fujioka, board chair; Lisa Menor, vice-chair; Norman Chong, treasurer; and Dew Anne Langcaon, secretary.

Theater group names board

Honolulu Theatre for Youth has named its officers for the 2003-04 season, including: Marcia E. Lee, president; Tony Pisculli, vice president; Carolyn Kishi, secretary; and Wallace G.K. Chin, treasurer.

Joining the board this season are Catherine L. Cooke, Brian Kessler and Maggie Chang. Re-elected board members include Jim Kelly and Pisculli.
