Todd Los Baños still is athletic director of Saint Louis School, despite reports that he offered his resignation on Friday.
Saint Louis issued a statement yesterday, with Los Baños and school president Father Allen DeLong saying the media were "misinformed" in announcing the resignation.
Two television stations, without naming sources, each reported Friday night that Los Baños had resigned. The Advertiser, citing one of Los Baños' longtime colleagues who wished to remain anonymous, reported in Saturday's edition that Los Baños told the colleague he offered his resignation.
Los Baños said Friday night he could not comment on the situation, and he refused to confirm or deny the reports. He did not return a call to The Advertiser yesterday morning, but in the school statement Los Baños said: "Our goal is to create the best athletic program we can for our students. We are in the process of evaluating how we handle administrative situations and decisions in the best interest of our student athletes."
School marketing/public relations director Rebecca Fernandes and Los Baños have said that all statements must come through Fernandes' office.
Los Baños took over as Saint Louis athletic director on July 1, replacing Cal Lee. Los Baños has taught at Saint Louis since 1997 and coached the Crusaders' wrestling team to two state championships.
New coach: In other news from Saint Louis, Scot Paiva has been named as the school's varsity baseball coach.
Paiva, a 1989 graduate of Saint Louis, was a varsity assistant for the Crusaders in 2001 and a JV assistant in 2000. He has more than 10 years of coaching experience overall, according to a school press release.
Paiva replaces Nick Wong, who coached for one season.
