Castle's Maeda to attend NFL Youth Summit

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Castle High football coach Nelson Maeda, The Advertiser's All-State Co-Coach of the Year in 2002, is one of 50 high school football coaches representing each state at the third annual NFL Youth Football Summit.

The event, July 31 to Aug. 3, is part of the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Canton, Ohio.

According to an NFL press release, high school coaches nationwide submitted an essay in which they wrote about their coaching careers, commitment to youth and coaching philosophies. A panel of representatives reviewed the essays and selected their state's representative.

The summit includes seminars. Among the guest speakers is former Dallas Cowboys personnel chief Gil Brandt.

The program is paid for by the NFL and NFL Players Association.
