Triathlon winners qualify for Olympics

O'ahu race will be held April 18: The first American woman and man to cross the finish line at the USA Triathlon Olympic Team Trials race April 18 in Hawai'i will qualify for the Athens Olympics.

Bellingham, Wash., will be the site of a second trial next June. In between, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Championships, May 8-9 in Madeira Island, Portugal, will be the third Olympic qualifying race.

The cities were evaluated and selected by a committee that included USA Triathlon staff, members of the Board of Directors, athletes and coaches. They evaluated swim, bike and run conditions, along with transition, race management, weather, hill gradient and other variables.

• Forum to be held today: A forum on "Judo and Education" will be held today at 5 p.m., at Hawai'i Tokai International College auditorium.

The keynote speaker will be Professor Toshiaki Hashimoto, Chair of the Physical Education Department Budo Program at Tokai University in Kanagawa, Japan.

SAILING

Race postponed: The Na Holo Kai sailing canoe race scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The course was scheduled to travel from Hale'iwa, O'ahu, to Nawiliwili, Kaua'i. No make-up date has been announced.
