Man, 42, faces weapons charge

Authorities today charged a 42-year-old man with being a felon in possession of a stolen gun.

Kenneth Puni of a Green Street address was arrested Monday on suspicion of assaulting his 34-year-old sister and threatening to shoot her during a dispute at their Makiki residence. During the investigation, police said they discovered that a gun in his possession was stolen.

Puni was charged today with first-degree theft, two firearm violations and third-degree assault. Bail was set at $50,000.

Mother suspect of attack on son

A 45-year-old woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of trying to drown her 9-year-old son in a bathtub.

Police responded to a call placed by the woman from her residence at 1538 Palolo Ave. at 9 a.m. and found the boy floating on his back, police said. The boy was semi-conscious and did not require CPR, according to police.

The child also had abrasions and scratches on his body. He was taken to Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, where police said he was in serious condition.

The woman was booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.
