Woman robs Waipahu bank
A woman robbed the Waipahu branch of City Bank yesterday afternoon, police said.
The woman walked up to a teller at about 12:05 p.m., brandished a knife and demanded money, police said. She was given some cash and ran in the mauka direction of Pupukahi Street.
The robber was described as in her early 20s, 5 feet 3, 135 pounds with a medium build. Police said she had dark hair and wore a black shirt over her face.

Laptops stolen at Ma'ili school
Early yesterday burglars broke into a Ma'ili Elementary School portable classroom and took several laptop computers that hold confidential information about students. Also taken was a desktop computer for students.
"All of the records that were kept on the computers are gone, and this is confidential information," principal Linda Victor said. "It's very demoralizing."
Victor also pointed out that the classroom was recently renovated. The students were dismayed to learn of the theft, she said.Ê

Man indicted in sexual attack
An O'ahu grand jury yesterday indicted a 26-year-old Waipahu man on 40 counts of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.
Douglas I. Faataitai was charged with 29 counts of first-degree sexual assault and 11 counts of third-degree sexual assault. Faataitai, of Waikele Road, is accused of sexually assaulting the boy over a two-year period. Police described Faataitai as a friend of the boy's family.
Society honors 4 city projects
Four city projects have won outstanding achievement awards for 2003 from the Hawai'i chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
The Pearl Harbor Historic Trail project, which emerged out of the city's vision team program, won the prestigious Excellence Award.
Earning the Merit Award were the Hanauma Bay Marine Education Center, Central O'ahu Regional Park and Punahou Square Park.
The society promotes the profession of landscape architecture through advocacy, education, communication and fellowship.
Mom arrested in attack on son
Police said yesterday that they arrested a 44-year-old Palolo Valley woman who tried to drown her 9-year-old son in a bathtub.
The boy was listed in serious condition after paramedics carried him from his home and took him to a hospital.
Investigators said a woman called 911 at about 9 a.m., saying she had just drowned her son in the bathtub.
