Hilo reaches title game in Little League Senior play

Hilo defeated Oregon, 9-3, in the Little League Senior (ages 14-16) Division Tournament yesterday to reach tomorrow's championship game at Forest Grove, Ore.

Myles Ioane struck out 10 and walked one for the win. Owen Otsuka and Matt Haasenritter each batted 2 for 4.

Hilo will play the winner of the losers' bracket, which has yet to be decided.

Central Maui ousted: Central Maui lost both of its games and was eliminated from the Little League Big League (ages 16-18) Western Regional at Billings, Mont.

Thousand Oaks, Calif., beat Central Maui, 12-11, Sunday and Arizona defeated Central Maui, 9-5, Monday.



GOLF

Hawai'i girls leads: The team of Mari Chun, Britney Choy, Lindsay Hong and Kelly Nakashima shot a 231 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Girls Junior America's Cup at the Whitefish (Mont.) Lake Golf Club.

Chun's 75 was the top score for the Hawai'i team, which leads Arizona by a shot.

McLachlin qualifies: Parker McLachlin of Honolulu qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after shooting a 1-under-par 143 in a Hawai'i's sectional qualifier at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Course Monday.

McLachlin will play in the championship, Aug. 18-24, at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club.

Dwyer advances: Bridget Dwyer of Kailua shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday for a two-round total of 137 at the Trans National Championship at the Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.

Dwyer, a senior at UCLA, faces Sammy Sue Wilson of Fort Myers, Fla., today in the first round of match play.



SOFTBALL

'Aiea advances: 'Aiea finished pool play with a 1-1 record yesterday at the Amateur Softball Association 12-Under National Championships in Marietta, Ga.

'Aiea lost to Rockdale, 5-1, before winning by forfeit over Texas.

The elimination round begins today.
