Kaua'i course starts renovations

Kiahuna Golf Club on Kaua'i began major renovations this week and the course now has nine holes open for play.

There will be special rates during the renovation. Kama'aina can play the "new" nine-hole course for $15. Non-resident rate is $45. Both can play subsequent nines for $10 apiece. Carts are included in the fee.

There will be no twilight rates or coupons accepted during the renovation.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1984. New owners plan to bring the course back to its original condition and enhance many of the Hawaiian historical features.

Renovations include repairing bunkers and ponds, leveling tees, re-establishing green and tee sizes, planting turf, tree trimming and brush clearing. More improvements are scheduled for the clubhouse and practice facility this year.

For more information and tee times, call Kiahuna at 742-9595.

Gail Ann Chew became the fourth player in event history to complete all 100 holes using one golf ball.
