Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i discus thrower Novelle Murray and high jumper Olivia Smoody failed to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the NCAA West Regional yesterday at Stanford, Calif.

Murray, the Western Athletic Conference champion, placed 32nd with a best toss of 38.20 meters. Smoody did not make the qualifying height of 1.66 meters.

On Friday, UH runners Victoria Chang (5,000) and Hanna Bremler (1,500) also missed qualifying.

"We had some very positive things happen this spring, like qualifying four individuals for the regionals in just our second full season," said UH coach Carmyn James.

The meeting is open to the public with lunch ($7.50 for club members and $8 for non-members) starting at at 11:30 a.m. followed by the program.
