Man, 18 faces theft charges

An 18-year-old man found sleeping Friday in a car that had been reported stolen has been charged with first-degree burglary, auto theft and two drug-related offenses. Jason Bell is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Bell is accused of breaking into a home on the 3800 block of Pahoa Avenue at 7 a.m. Friday and stealing a car and purse. A police officer found the stolen car at 7:52 a.m., parked on 8th Avenue with its engine running.

Charge filed in club burglary

A 41-year-old man was charged Saturday with stealing money from Club By Me at 2334 S. King St.

Brian Sato, who has no permanent local address, was discovered inside the bar by police who responded to a security alarm alert at 2:15 a.m.

Sato is charged with second-degree burglary, and his bail was set at $15,000.

Accident leads to theft charge

Authorities have charged a 35-year-old man involved in a traffic collision Saturday in Hawai'i Kai with auto theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Travis Naeole was charged after being treated for injuries at The Queen's Medical Center. His bail was set at $35,000.

Brush fire burns near golf course

Firefighters needed about two hours yesterday to extinguish a brush fire near the Hawai'i Kai Golf Course.

The 2:30 a.m. fire started inside an abandoned auto and spread to surrounding brush in the Queen's Beach, said Capt. Emmit Kane, a spokesperson for the Honolulu Fire Department.

Makaha man faces sex count

A 47-year-old Makaha man was charged Friday with first-degree sexual assault on an 8-year-old boy.

Carl Hoff allegedly lured the child into his apartment with toys on May 14. Bail was set at $11,000.

Fugitive caught after foot chase

Police captured a 24-year-old fugitive at 4:15 p.m. Saturday after a 15-minute foot chase in Kailua.

Brandon O'Brien, featured in a CrimeStoppers bulletin last week, was wanted on a probation revocation, contempt of court and traffic warrants.
