• The Fairmont Orchid, Hawai'i has named BARBARA HICKS director of sales and marketing. She previously worked 16 years for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in Canada. Her duties include increasing brand awareness for the two Fairmont resorts in Hawai'i.

JAY RUBENSTEIN has been promoted from account director to director of group sales at the Fairmont Orchid. Rubenstein brings to the job 15 years of experience in the local hospitality industry.

The Fairmont Orchid has also appointed KRISTA BENTLEY director of leisure sales. Bentley previously worked in wholesale leisure sales at The Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver.

EDLYN AQUILA FERNANDEZ has been promoted to pilot manager of Vector Marketing's Honolulu office. A native of San Francisco, she joined Vector in 2000 as a sales representative.

LIANE NAKAMURA has been promoted to associate of Helber Hastert & Fee, a planning firm specializing in land use and environment. She has been with the firm since 1991 and is the first nonplanning professional recognized as an associate for her service and dedication to the firm.

• Kaikor Construction Associates Inc., a general engineering contractor firm, has announced the promotion of ERIK SNYDER from estimator to vice president of estimating. He will oversee all project bids and be responsible for project selection.

GARRETT J. SULLIVAN of Kaikor Construction Associates has been named the 2003 president of Construction Financial Management Association's Hawai'i chapter.

The association, a nonprofit organization serving financial professionals in the construction industry, also named its 2003 officers: JOYCE FURUKAWA of Royal Contracting is first vice president; LORI ISARA of Koga Engineering is secretary; and REID GUSHIKEN of KPMG LLP is treasurer.

• The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, has named AMY BLAGRIFF its executive vice president. She has spent the past four years in Washington, D.C., working with member-based associations to help professionals improve performance.

• The Cutter automotive group has promoted two longtime managers. PAT AH YOU has been named general manager of Cutter Ford Aiea, the company's flagship store. He has been with the company since 1977.

GARY SCHEURING, who joined the Cutter staff in 1994, was promoted to general manager of Ala Moana Volkswagen-Mazda.

SANDRA C. SMILEY, a financial adviser with the Honolulu office of American Express, has been appointed a member of the company's advanced adviser group, Senior Financial Advisors. As a senior financial adviser, she is authorized to provide an expanded scope of financial planning to clients.

KEN TAKEUCHI has been appointed director of hospital clinical operations for Leahi Hospital. He was previously a manager for St. Francis Medical Center and a case manager and project coordinator for the state Department of Human Services. As director, Takeuchi will oversee admissions, adult day health, dietary, laboratory, pharmacy, rehab, social services and X-ray.

• The Lyle Anderson Co. Inc. has promoted JOHN DE FRIES to chief executive officer of its Hokuli'a development in South Kona — a master-planned, seaside community. As CEO, he will be responsible for leading the project into a new phase while continuing to strengthen its ties to the community. De Fries was previously Lyle Anderson's president.

The company has also named PIETER LEMS executive vice president, in charge of daily operations. A native of the Netherlands, Lems has been a management consultant and chairman of a business in Northern California for the past 15 years.

• Finance Factors has appointed BENSON CHOO to information protection manager in the information security department. Before joining Finance Factors, he was an information systems auditor for several local banks.
