Advertiser Staff

World champion Andy Irons of Kaua'i posted the best scores in the fourth round of the Quiksilver Fiji Pro yesterday.

The entire fourth round was completed in 5- to 6-foot waves at Cloudbreak, Tavarua, Fiji.

Irons used a combination of barrel rides and off-the-top carves during his fourth-round victory over California's Taylor Knox. Irons' top two waves received scores of 9.7 and 8.5 for a total of 18.2. No other surfer had a total score higher than 16 yesterday.

"Waves are super fun and I lucked into the right ones that allowed barrels," Irons said.

Irons is scheduled to meet Australian Shane Powell in the quarterfinals.

The contest is the fourth stop (of 13) on surfing's 2003 World Championship Tour. Irons is currently ranked No. 1 on the tour.
