Contract qualification deadline June 19

Maui County businesses have until June 19 to register with the Maui Office of Economic Development to qualify as a disadvantaged business when competing for federally financed transportation contracts statewide.

Disadvantaged businesses must be at least 51 percent owned by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. These groups include African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, women and others designated as socially and economically disadvantaged by the Small Business Administration.

Federally assisted contract work typically includes set-asides for small, disadvantaged businesses.
