Deadline set for Act 221 form

High-tech businesses that received cash investments under the state's Act 221 technology investment tax credit program have until June 16 to file a new information form with the Department of Taxation.

The form, N-317, is one source of information being used by the department to evaluate tax-credit claims. The forms are available on the department's Web site at www.state.hi.us/tax or by calling its forms-by-fax number at 587-7572.



Surfrider to get $17M makeover

The Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki will undergo a $16.7 million, 18-month renovation starting this week. Project designer ADI Design Group is using a contemporary Hawaiian look to improve the lobby, corridors, 386 guest rooms and 44 suites in the tower wing.

The hotel is owned by Kyo-ya Co. Ltd. and managed by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Renovations also are under way at The Royal Hawaiian and are planned at the Sheraton Waikiki.



Nonprofit names new president

Local venture capitalist Bill Richardson is the new president of Hawaii Business and Entrepreneur Acceleration Mentors.

Richardson succeeds Silicon Valley venture capitalist Barry Weinman as president of the nonprofit group, which helps arrange investments for startup companies.

Richardson is general partner of local investing firm HMS Hawaii.
