Bank robbery 15th of year on O'ahu

City Bank's Makiki branch was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by a man who used a note indicating he had a weapon. The robbery at 1338 S. Beretania St. was reported at 1:45 p.m.

It was O'ahu's 15th bank robbery of the year.

Fatal Big Island crash investigated

Big Island police are investigating a fatal crash today on the Hakalau overpass bridge on Highway 19 in north Hilo. Firefighters had to extricate the motorist from a compact car that struck at pillar at about 3:15 a.m. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. Speeding may have contributed to the crash.

Two men arrested in armed robberies

Police have arrested two men, ages 35 and 27, in connection with separate armed robbery investigations in Kalihi.

The older man was arrested yesterday at 2260 Kamehameha Highway. at 8 a.m., about four hours after a 26-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in front of his Kalihi Street residence.

Police today arrested the 27-year-old man in connection with an 11:45 p.m. robbery last night on Democrat Street. A knife was used in that robbery.

Sex offender remains at large

Sex offender Jovie Adora, wanted on a $1 million warrant issued yesterday for failing to appear at Circuit Court for sentencing, is still at large.

Adora, who was free on bail and had previously pleaded guilty, was waiting outside Judge Fa'auuga To'oto'o's courtroom in Circuit Court but left before the start of his sentencing, said his attorney, Keith Shigetomi. Adora told his lawyer he went to the doctor. He was scheduled to be sentenced for kidnapping and sexual abuse.

Four charged in Kalihi drug busts

Four people who reside in two Hikina Lane apartments in Kalihi raided by police on Wednesday have been charged with state drug offenses related to dealing and using crystal methamphetamine.

Alex E. Ababa, 41, and his girlfriend, Fe N. Reyes, 38, who live at 940-B Hikina Lane are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail apiece. Each is charged with one count of first-degree and two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Police seized more than three ounces of crystal meth from a safe in their apartment.

Jacqueline Asuncion, 58, and Raymond G. Cabral, 49, who live at 940-A Hikina Lane is each charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled Monday at District Court for the four suspects.

Kalihi police arrested six others on federal warrants charging them with dealing drugs within Kalihi's Weed & Seed District. One other indicted suspect, who is on the mainland, is still at large. In addition, two other men have been charged for allegedly seeling crystal meth to undercover officers.
