Jovie Adora, 26, was wanted on a $1 million warrant that was issued Wednesday after he left the Circuit Court building on Punchbowl Street. Adora had been free on bail after pleading guilty to kidnapping and sexual abuse. He was waiting outside Judge Fa'auuga To'oto'o's courtroom when he told his attorney he felt ill and left before the start of his sentencing.
The state Sheriff's Division and Honolulu police determined yesterday that Adora may have boarded a plane to Guam, said Honolulu police Detective Letha DeCaires.
State First Deputy Sheriff Cappy Caminos said they received information that Adora's girlfriend took him to Honolulu International Airport.
Caminos said airport personnel questioned Adora about the reason for the last-minute purchase of a plane ticket. Adora told them there was a death in his family in Guam and he was on his way to be with them, Caminos said.
Adora boarded Continental Flight C01 under the alias, Mark Adora, Caminos said. The state Sheriff's Division notified police on Guam and faxed them a picture of Adora.
When the airplane landed on Guam at about 9:45 p.m. Hawai'i time, police were waiting at the jetway and identified Adora, who admitted who he was, Caminos said.
DeCaires said Adora's capture on Guam was crucial because he apparently was on his way to the Philippines. She said he will be extradited to Hawai'i to be sentenced for four sexual assaults on girls.
