A reforestation and trail-rerouting project three years in the making will culminate tomorrow in the opening of a new portion of the Makiki Valley Loop Trail with a blessing and other activities celebrating National Trails Day. Participants meet at 8:45 a.m. at the O'ahu Division of Forestry Base Yard , 2135 Makiki Heights Road, for the short hike to the new trail junction for the blessing ceremony.
Volunteers have spent Friday mornings for the last year and a half planting and caring for native Hawaiian species, clearing the trail and laying gravel.
