A certain kind of furniture polish was at one time sold with the slogan, "If you save the surface, you save the wood." We often think this is true in life. We are very particular about the external but are totally indifferent to the internal. We are more concerned about our appearance than our inward goodness. We often prefer to be good-looking than good.
