Michelle Wie settled into the sport of golf after participating in many others at the urging of her parents.

"We tried to introduce all types of sports to Michelle," said BJ, her father. "She played tennis for a number of years and spent a few years in gymnastics and swimming."

BJ said Michelle's "agility is below average," but her "ball-striking skills were the best in baseball, tennis and golf. Then golf is the natural and logical choice for her sport."

"I had the most talent in golf. That is what my parents told me," Michelle said.

She participated in all the other sports because "my parents asked me."

Wie recalls her baseball career vividly, though she was 5 at the time.

"I was a hitter," she said, "an all-star on an all-boys team. I played outfield, but really I was just a hitter."

In soccer, Wie said she "was very good at kicking, but I could not run fast."
