The passage of a recommendation for a Division II state football tournament dominated news of yesterday's HIADA conference, but several other key changes in Hawai'i high school athletics were addressed.
In volleyball, a change in scoring system from sideouts to rally scoring will have teams playing a best-of-three match with 25 points winning each of the first two games and 15 for the third. A rule change also will allow let serves. In addition, the Maui Interscholastic League will now be involved in the rotation of host sites for state tournaments.
A state tournament for girls water polo, starting next spring, was approved.
Issues regarding a shot clock for girls basketball and allowing "combined teams" to play in state tournaments will be discussed and voted on today.
