Hilo's 'Cabbage' in Super Brawl match
Advertiser Staff
It won't be difficult motivating Hilo's Wesley "Cabbage" Correira for tomorrow night's feature bout against 6-foot-7, 245-pound Justin Eilers in Super Brawl XXX.
The nine-bout event starts at 7:30 at Blaisdell Arena.
A win over Eilers could vault Correira into position for a rematch with Tim Sylvia for the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title.
UFC President Dana White, who will be ringside, is expected to give "Cabbage" his first-ever world title shot if he performs well.
Sylvia, the reigning UFC champion, defeated "Cabbage" less than a year ago in the UFC debut for both fighters. Sylvia went on to win the heavyweight title.
In another bout, 380-pound Andre "The Chief" Roberts, a Meskwaki Indian, will take on Jonathan Ivey.
Rounding out the event is an eight-man tournament, featuring fighters who qualified from events in Iowa and Utah, as well as Hawai'i fighters Desi Miner and Kaipo Kalama.
To win the tournament, a fighter must defeat three opponents in the same night. In two previous Super Brawl tournaments the winner has advanced to a pay-per-view deal with the UFC. Tickets are available at the Blaisdell box office and all Ticket Master outlets. Prices start at $15.
