Police say man punched officer

Police were seeking to press charges against a 25-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a 41-year-old law enforcement officer yesterday at Pearlridge Shopping Center.

The officer, a deputy sheriff, saw a man driving in a reckless way. He approached the man, identified himself and was punched, police said.

They said the man would be charged with first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer.

Work will add to aircraft noise

Runway maintenance today through July 1 at Hono lulu International Airport will generate aircraft noise around O'ahu, the state Department of Transportation has announced.

Sand Island, Downtown Honolulu, Hickam, 'Ewa Beach and Wai'anae will be affected.

Officials will close two runways from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. daily to remove rubber. During the closures, departing aircraft will use a runway that sends them over the downtown area. Arrivals will approach over the 'Ewa plains.
