20 receive nutrition awards
The following students have been awarded the Carey D. Miller Nutrition Scholarship Award by the Hawai'i Foundation for Dietetics:
Paula Bryant, Rachel Corns, Nancy Faraj, Tanisha Franquez, Zale Hisashima, Michael Holley, Lauren Hong, Mia Inoshita, Chelsia Kawamura, Jonathan Lai, Annie Leong, Masako Ma-
tsunaga, Kikue Montgomery, Michael Nishimitsu, Stephen Pulido, Amber Sakagawa, Wing Shan Tam, Jillian Tutuo-Wate, James Wong and Joyce Wu.
The awards are given to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students interested in a career in food science and human nutrition.
Carey D. Miller taught nutrition and directed the Food and Nutrition Department at the University of Hawai'i for almost 40 years. She was well known for her scientific research on dietary habits of people in Hawai'i.
Three win HPU scholarships
Three high school seniors have been awarded scholarships by Hawai'i Pacific University to study journalism at the school's College of Communication. They are Sarah Covell, Radford, broadcast journalism; Brian Fields, Kalaheo, visual communication; and Isabel Batenhorst, Radford, broadcast journalism.
Big Isle student to get $4,000
Gabriella Wimberley-Hartman of King Kekaulike High School has been awarded one of 200 Regional Coca-Cola Scholarships worth $4,000.
More than 104,000 applicants applied for the national scholarship. Awardees were chosen for their commitment to educational achievement, leadership, and service to school and community.
7 graduates get scholarships
Seven local high school seniors have been awarded scholarships from Seattle Pacific University.
SPU Provost's Scholar Award ($5,000) winners are: Lauren Mayumi Furuya, Hawai'i Baptist; and Arezu Meika Mahjoubi, Sacred Hearts Academy.
SPU Dean's Scholarship Award ($3,000) include: Amanda Marie Correia,
Sacred Hearts; Stephanie Ann Malin, Hawai'i Baptist; Candace Noelani Martin, Maryknoll; Noel Keonaonalaulani Pahio, Christian Academy; and Ashley Foster Sutherland, Hawai'i Baptist.
Asian art society names officers
The Society of Asian Art of Hawai'i announced its officers and directors for the new term: Will Hughes, president; Roger Bellinger, vice president; Kay Graham, secretary; Ernest Lee, treasurer; and directors Vivien Stackpole, Philip Roach and Sam Kagesa.
Megan Callan and Aisha Buntin were named program co-chairs and William Won named membership chair.
The SAAH, established in 1974, hosts monthly meetings at the Honolulu Academy of Arts with a guest speaker on some aspect of Asian arts.

Chips Quinn Scholars chosen
University of Hawai'i-Manoa students Kawehi Haug and Kalani Wilhelm have been named Freedom Forum Chips Quinn Scholars for the summer of 2003. Each will receive $1,000 and 10- to 12-week paid internships at The Honolulu Advertiser.
The Chips Quinn Scholars program is an effort to increase diversity in daily newspaper newsrooms nationwide.
