Two receive refunds so far from Mainline

By Dan Nakaso

At least two customers of troubled Mainline Airways received refunds by yesterday's deadline that the company had established.

THOMPSON
Mainline Airways had advertised one-way fares for as low as $89 from Honolulu to Los Angeles beginning July 3.

Mainline shut down operations June 10 after the state Office of Consumer Protection obtained a temporary restraining order, saying it was not authorized to fly and had no airline equipment.

Luke R. Thompson, Mainline's 18-year-old CEO, said at the time that he would make refunds to all 120 people who made "pre-reservations."

The Office of Consumer Protection has since heard from two Mainline customers, including a woman who had bought nine tickets. All of the purchases were refunded, according to Stephen Levins of the Office of Consumer Protection.

It may never be known how many people were attracted to Mainline's offer through its Web site.

"Until we get a final accounting, we're not going to know," Levins said. "All we can go on is the representations that he's been making."
