UH student is Miss Hawai'i

Miss Diamond Head Kanoelani Gibson was crowned Miss Hawai'i 2003 last night at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

Gibson, 22, will represent Hawai'i in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City in September. She performed "Natural Woman" in the talent portion of last night's program, and her platform was education and awareness of learning disabilities. She is a UH student and went to high school in Missouri.

Gibson was among 11 women who competed in swimsuit, evening wear, talent and personal interview segments. Besides the overall title, they were vying for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes.

Miss Waikiki Jennifer Fairbank was named the first runner-up, Miss Garden Isle Olena Rubin second-runner-up, Miss Leeward Radasha Ho'ohuli third runner-up and Miss O'ahu Lyanna Tumaneng fourth runner-up.
