Time is wasting if you're serious about registering for the annual AT&T Hawaiian Dragon Boat Festival. Sign up before June 30 and save $245 on the entry fee. After July 1, the registration is $425 per team.

The dragon-boat races will be Aug. 9 and 10 at Ala Moana Beach Park. Register at www.idealhawaii.com or by calling Gifford Chang at 951-0350.


Keiki artist contest

Is your child showing artistic ability? Here's a cool little drawing contest, put on by Zippy's Restaurant, in which children put their drawings and ideas on display.

Children 8 to 18 can submit drawings with the theme: "I will take care of our islands and the ocean by ... "

The contest encourages kids to create drawings that tell people how they will take care of our islands and ocean.

Petwalk 2003

If yours is among the 54 percent of O'ahu households that include a pet, here's a chance to do something for animals that need a home like yours: Take your pet to Petwalk 2003, a benefit for the Hawaiian Humane Society. The 2.8-mile walk around Magic Island and Ala Moana Beach Park starts 8 a.m. Sunday.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. if you want to sign up the day of the event. There is no entry fee. Donations will be collected at the registration area. A San Francisco treat

The San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush — the NFL team's cheerleading squad — is in Honolulu through Friday shooting its new swimsuit calendar. The 32-member squad is staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and shooting around the island under the direction of photographer Heinz Kleuetmeier.
