Couple found dead at Pauoa home

An elderly couple was found dead at their Pauoa Valley home yesterday in what police have classified as a murder-suicide.

The man and woman, described as in their late 80s, were found in the back yard of the home on the 2800 block of Booth Road shortly before noon, police said. The man had told a family member to go to the home yesterday, but did not say why, police said.

When the family member arrived, he found the two dead.

Police said the man apparently killed his wife, who was suffering from some kind of dementia, and then himself. There was no evidence to indicate that anyone else was involved in the deaths, police said.

A neighbor said he had spoken to the man Sunday and that everything seemed fine. The neighbor said the couple had been living there for more than 50 years and the man had been caring for his wife for some time.
