$3.6 million awarded for highways
Hawai'i will receive $3.6 million for new federal highway projects, the U.S. Department of Transportation said yesterday.
The money is part of $693 million in Federal Highway Administration discretionary money made available nationwide, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta said.
Although 498 grants in seven categories were given to all 50 states, Hawai'i received money for just one project, officials said. The money will come through the Public Lands Highways grant category, which provides money for highway construction projects on public lands such as national parks.
