Kaua'i driver killed after hitting tree

A 19-year-old Anahola man died this morning on Kaua'i after he swerved off the road and hit a coconut tree.

The man was traveling northbound on Kuhio Highway near Kukuihale Road in Anahola when he lost control of his car about 2 a.m., police said. The man died at the scene.


Drug transaction leads to stabbing

Police arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of assault today after an altercation on Hotel Street.

Police said the suspect became angry that after paying another man $5 for crystal methamphetamine he didn't receive the drug.

According to police, the suspect stabbed the man who was given $5.


Satellite city hall at Ala Moana Center reopens

The Ala Moana Center satellite city hall reopened today after being closed for two days because of fumes from an unidentified source.

The source of the fumes, which were first noticed Monday, has not been found.

City employees reported eye irritation and were moved to other locations during the closing.

The satellite city hall is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
