Couple found dead at home identified
An elderly couple found dead at their Pauoa Valley home Monday have been identified as Kazuo Hironaga, 87, and Dorothy Hironaga, 84, the Honolulu medical examiner said yesterday.
Police have classified the case as a murder-suicide. Police said the man apparently killed his wife, who was suffering from some kind of dementia, and then himself. There was no evidence to indicate that anyone else was involved in the deaths, police said.
Mother charged in attack on son
Authorities have charged a mother with the attempted murder of her 30-year-old son. Police said she attempted to stab him with a knife. Bernadette Chamizo, 54, was arrested early yesterday at a Sheridan Street home after an argument with her son.
Chamizo began arguing with her son after he asked her for money, police said. They said she then pulled a three-inch knife and attempted to stab her son.
Chamizo's son grabbed her wrist and disarmed her, police said.
Man arrested for not being in court
A 23-year-old man who was wanted for failing to appear for sentencing in a sexual assault case was arrested last night in 'Aiea.
Blaine Teves was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. by members of the police Specialized Services Division. He was the subject of a CrimeStoppers bulletin issued less than two hours earlier.
In addition to the warrant, Teves was wanted for questioning in two recent bank robberies.
Search for missing man continues
Rangers at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park yesterday continued the search for an Indiana man who has been missing since June 6.
The rental car of Timothy Lynch, 44, was found June 13 at the end of Chain of Craters Road, near active flows. Yesterday was the third day of searching. Patrols on the lava flows will continue, the National Park Service said.
Man wanted on warrants arrested
A man who was wanted by police on warrants for probation revocation as well as domestic violence and contempt charges was arrested Tuesday without incident.
Shane Canonio, 27, was arrested by police at Auahi and Koula streets at about 4:30 p.m. Tips to police and CrimeStoppers led officers to Canonio.
