Elizabeth Kauahipaula services set

Services have been set for Elizabeth Kalili Kauahipaula, noted Hawaiian elder, educator, language expert, cultural consultant and the longest-serving charter kupuna in the state Department of Education's Hawaiian programs.

She died June 8, 2003, at age 88.
Elizabeth Kauahipaula taught at children's centers and hula halau.
Kauahipaula, who was born in Honolulu, worked until this year in the Waiau Hawaiian Language Immersion Program.
She was also known for her work as a Hawaiian-language specialist at The Kamehameha Schools and as a volunteer teacher of Hawaiian and Hawaiian culture at 'Anuenue Hawaiian Language Immersion and Samuel Kamakau schools.
Kauahipaula also taught at Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center in Wai'anae and in Central O'ahu, at several hula halau including Halau Mohala 'Ilima and at her home.
She was also host of the longest-running Hawaiian language TV talk show, "Manaleo"; a board member of 'Ahahui 'Olelo Hawai'i, the Hawaiian language association; and a consultant to Ka Haka'ula a Ke'elikolani Hawaiian Language College, Hilo.
She was a retired chaplain of Hale O Na Ali'i, retired from Hawaiian Telephone Co. and was a member of 'Ahahui Ka'ahumanu, the Royal Order of Kamehameha Women's Auxiliary and Ka Lahui Hawai'i.
She is survived by son, Herman Nunuha; sister, Margaret Spencer; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and hanai grandsons, Hailama Farden and Kalani Akana.
Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary, with services set for 5 p.m. Visitation is also scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Monday in the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel at The Kamehameha Schools, with services at noon, followed by burial at 3 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park.
