Lex Brodie resigns from school board

Former businessman Lex Brodie has resigned from the state Board of Education, citing health reasons.

BRODIE
Brodie, 88, submitted a letter of resignation Wednesday that took effect yesterday, said Department of Education spokesman Greg Knudsen.

Brodie was first elected to an at-large seat on the board in 1992. Several years before, he had led a group of volunteers that inspected public schools and pushed state government to make them cleaner and safer.

Brodie retired in 1991 from his Lex Brodie's Tire Co., which still operates under his name. He is also a former president of Small Business Hawai'i.

He became known for his tire commercials, which ended with his catch phrase, "Thank you ... very much."
