Advertiser Staff

Honolulu's Michelle Wie, 13, advanced to the final of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at Palm Coast, Fla.

Wie won two matches today, beating defending champion Becky Lucidi of Poway, Calif., in the quarterfinals, 6 and 5, and Aimee Cho of Orlando, Fla., in the semifinals, 5 and 4.

Wie will meet Thailand's Virada Nirapathpongporn in a 36-hole final Sunday. Nirapathpongporn defeated Beth Allen of San Diego, 5 and 4, in the semifinal.

In Wie's semifinal victory over Cho, the 6-foot tall incoming Punahou School ninth-grader won five of the first six holes. She eagled the par-5, 481-yard second hole and birdied the 160-yard fourth. Wie was 3-under on the 6,068-yard course at Ocean Hammock Golf Club when the match ended on the 14th hole.
