Y. Hata awarded defense contract

Honolulu-based Y. Hata & Co. Ltd. yesterday was awarded a $13.6 million contract to distribute food to the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Job Corps and Coast Guard. The contract, awarded by the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia, runs through June 19, 2004.

Y. Hata & Co., a grocery supplier to hotels, schools and other nonretail outlets, previously won a contract to distribute food to Navy ships.

Deal expands coffee's reach

Pasadena, Calif.-based The Beverage Group will be the master distributor of Royal Kona Coffee iced coffee blends in the United States.

By partnering with The Beverage Group, Royal Kona Coffee expects to expand its market to the Mainland, said Jim Wayman, president of Hawaii Coffee Co., which produces the iced coffee products.
