Acetylene tank disposal closes Pali Highway
Advertiser Staff
Police closed Pali Highway for about 30 minutes yesterday while explosive experts disposed of an old acetylene tank. Bomb disposal company Donaldson Enterprises workers, including Eric Brundage, above, blew a hole in the tank at about 1 p.m., allowing residual gas to escape. Terry Corpuz, environmental health specialist with the state Department of Health, said it appeared that someone had recently dumped the tank there. The highway was closed in both directions from roughly 12:30 to 1 p.m. The tank was reported to officials Thursday. It was in a gravel clearing along the townbound lanes, about 200 yards south of the Pali tunnels.
