English goes undrafted

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawai'i basketball star Carl English was not picked in today's NBA draft.

The 6-foot-5 junior had been projected as a possible late first-round or second-round pick, but was not among the 58 players taken in the two-round draft.

Twenty-two guards were drafted. No one from the Western Athletic Conference was picked.

English is now a likely free-agent signee, the route taken by former UH guard Predrag Savovic last year. Savovic was not drafted and signed on as a free agent with the Denver Nuggets.

English ended his UH career as the school's No. 7 career scorer, with 1,259 points. He averaged 19.6 points last season, including a UH-record 89 three-pointers.
